GaijinPot, Japan’s leading website for foreigners working, studying and living in Japan, held the sixth event in a series of networking parties for Tokyo-area foreigners at the Tokyo Comedy Bar in Shibuya on August 24th.
A foreigner walks into a comedy bar…
It was the first time that the event was held at a comedy club, in a space which also happens to be Japan’s only stand-up comedy venue! The evening was a huge hit, judging by the turnout, many smiling and laughing faces and the great conversations that took place throughout the night.
The highlight of the evening was the performance by BJ Fox, the owner of Tokyo Comedy Bar and himself a seasoned stand up comedian. BJ rocked the room with his sharp observational humor and hilarious stories about navigating Japanese society and travails with the language.
About 30 guests and staff attended the event. The evening started off with time for chatting and casual networking and was followed by a 25 minute comedy show.
Guests were also able to enjoy their drink of choice, including top-tier craft beer on tap and small bites. The atmosphere was light and casual. Free-flowing conversations bubbled around the room and more than a few people made new friends throughout the evening.
Guest demographics were similar to previous events. Most attendees were working people, as opposed to students and many were longer term residents of Japan, although we were also happy to welcome people who had only been in-country for a few months.
Many nationalities were also represented, including guests from Hong Kong, Canada, the United States, Serbia, France, Spain and Japan, among others.
The evening also included a short presentation about GPlusMedia’s services. GaijinPot is owned by GPlusMedia Inc., which produces Japan’s most used English-language news and information sites, including JapanToday, Savvy Tokyo and Real Estate Japan.
Networking and business opportunities
Many attendees came for networking and to look for job opportunities.
We also offer opportunities for our clients to attend GaijinPot Meet events to meet users of GaijinPot and to meet other corporate clients.
The next event will be a karaoke night. If you are interested in attending the next GaijinPot Meet, which will be held at Karaoke no Tetsujin in Ginza on Thursday, September 14th, please make a reservation here.
Please be aware that attendee numbers will be capped at 16 and tickets are issued on a first-come-first-served basis. The upcoming event will have an attendance fee of ¥3,000 for all-you-can-drink, including alcoholic beverages and ¥2,000 for all-you-can-drink non-alcoholic beverages for three hours.
